Bairro do Avillez

Bairro do Avillez is a gastronomic destination in Chiado, created by chef José Avillez, bringing together four distinct restaurants: Taberna, Páteo, Mini Bar and Pizzaria Lisboa.

Bairro do Avillez was created by chef José Avillez, one of the leading names in contemporary Portuguese gastronomy, recognized nationally and internationally.

It is a beautiful and surprising gastronomic space with several concepts in the same place, all by chef José Avillez. Bairro do Avillez is a unique space in Lisbon, and even in Portugal, with four different restaurants and an outdoor terrace, offering different atmospheres and options for lunch, petiscos, dinner, cocktails, music or events.

Bairro do Avillez is unique because it brings together several restaurants and experiences in the same space, in a historic building in Chiado, with the signature of chef José Avillez. It stands out for its Portuguese cuisine, architectural setting, decorative details, outdoor terrace, evening atmosphere, music programme, scale, event possibilities and easy access, with parking available in several nearby car parks.

Bairro do Avillez brings together four restaurants: Taberna, Páteo, Mini Bar and Pizzaria Lisboa. Each has its own identity and responds to different moments, from outdoor terrace, petiscos and Portuguese cuisine to cocktails, music, Fado, pizzas and events.

The choice depends on the space: at Páteo, Portuguese cuisine, fish, meat and vegetarian dishes; at Taberna, Portuguese petiscos; at Mini Bar, a creative dinner menu and cocktails; at Pizzaria Lisboa, thin-crust pizzas, pastas, risottos and desserts.

Yes. Bairro do Avillez is worth visiting for its combination of location, architecture, restaurant diversity, José Avillez’s signature, Portuguese gastronomy, entertainment, décor and atmosphere.

A reservation is recommended, especially for dinner, weekends, special dates, groups and evenings with programming such as Fado, concerts, DJ or show. However, it is possible to have lunch or dinner at Bairro do Avillez without a reservation. Bairro do Avillez has a pleasant waiting lounge where guests can order a drink while their table is being prepared.

Taberna

Taberna is the most informal and relaxed concept at chef José Avillez’s Bairro do Avillez. Inspired by traditional Lisbon taverns, it serves Portuguese petiscos, comfort dishes and drinks in a welcoming setting with a terrace in Chiado, Lisbon. Open every day from 12:30 pm to 11:00 pm, it is a perfect choice for a last-minute meal without a reservation. The menu is varied and works for both a quick bite and a longer meal, with petiscos, dishes, desserts, cocktails and wines, in a visually appealing space with attentive service.

Taberna brings back the spirit of old Lisbon taverns and reinterprets it with chef José Avillez’s signature: Portuguese flavours, charcuterie, cheeses, wines, cocktails, petiscos, sharing plates, an informal atmosphere, a terrace and relaxed service. It is open every day, all day, from 12:30 pm to 11:00 pm, in the centre of Lisbon.

Taberna has a varied menu with a good selection of Portuguese cheeses and charcuterie, as well as popular petiscos such as veal croquettes, tuna tartare cornetto with spicy soy, and prawns with garlic and chilli. There are also excellent pregos, including beef tenderloin prego and tuna prego, served with delicious chips, as well as generous dishes such as grilled piri-piri chicken with chips and green salad or tiger prawn with white rice. There are several vegetarian options, and the desserts are well worth trying, including pastel de nata with coffee ice cream, olive oil and honey pudding with lemon zest, and chocolate cake.

Taberna stands out for its combination of Portuguese petiscos and flavours, informal atmosphere, beautiful and surprising décor, good service, terrace, central Chiado location, easy access and nearby parking options.
